It’s no secret that securing your identity online is getting harder and harder as technology becomes more advanced. Fortunately, Gunn Memorial Library subscribes to an online database service where there are plenty of resources at your fingertips to help you become more secure online.
Lynda.com is a video learning resource available to Washington residents through the library with thousands of videos that teach you and show you a vast range of technology based subjects. The topics range from web development, to IT training, to Photoshop tips and tricks, and more. The videos range in length and skill level from beginner to advanced. Some videos are less than an hour and some could be much longer but each video is broken down into sub-topics and you can skip around if you feel comfortable doing so.
For this article, we have chosen one video on Lynda.com called “Cybersecurity Awareness: The Importance of Identity Protection.” This video is a beginner level introduction to protecting your identity online. The creators discuss ways to protect your identity, what happens if/when your identity is stolen, and protecting your passwords.
When you click the link, you will be asked to sign in with your Gunn Memorial Library card. Use the 14-digit number on the back (no spaces). You will also be asked to give a PIN number which is the last 4 digits of the phone number you gave us when you got your card. If those 4 digits do not work, call the library and we will generate a new PIN for you.
After you learn about protecting your identity we encourage you to look around and see what else you can learn on Lynda.com!
If you are not a Washington resident check with your local library to see if they subscribe to Lynda.com.
